The Soul Supper or the dumb supper is ancient custom is one where an extra place is set out at the table for ancestral spirits to join the meal. On an evening over the Samhain celebrations the family will set out an extra place, as well as an empty chair, which is usually placed at the head of the table.

Early people were keen observers of the sky. A cross-quarter day is a day more or less midway between an equinox and a solstice. We meet on the day the ancients celebrated Samhain based on the theory that the calendar drifted away from seasons, and leap years were thrown in. This means the cross quarter holiday now falls on or around 7th November.

The Pleiades is a constellation which is visible from the North Pole to the tip of Africa. Also known as the Seven Sisters for the seven stars most prominently visible, it’s nearly always there if you look for it. Many cultures, including European cultures connected the constellation with the dead, and when they were overhead, the veil between the worlds was growing thinner.

Today Thoth is referred to as the God of Wisdom and knowledge. However, he is also God of Medicine, Learning, Magic, Truth and Lord of Time, and is strongly associated with the moon. All spoken and written language is attributed to him. He is connected to the Akashic records and can help us retrieve our soul name.
